The U.S. Congress recently passed the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act amidst mounting evidence of a concerted Chinese strategy to cleanse and control the Uyghur Muslim population. CGP’s panel of experts will explore international legislation on Uyghur Human Rights and their effects on China.
Dr. Azeem Ibrahim: Director of the Displacement and Migration program at The Center for Global Policy and Chair of CGP’s Rohingya Legal Forum.
Dr. Sean Roberts is an Associate Professor in the Practice of International Affairs and Director of the International Development Studies program at GWU’s Elliott School of International Affairs. He has studied the Uyghur people for 30 years, and he is the author of the upcoming book, The War on the Uyghurs: China’s Internal Campaign Against a Muslim Minority (Princeton University Press, 2020).
Dr. Dilnur Reyhan is an Instructor at the French National Institute of Oriental Studies and President of the European Uyghur Institute. Dr. Reyhan is also Director of the bilingual magazine Regard sur les Oighour-e-s.
Nury Turkel is currently a D.C.- based attorney, Commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, and Board Chairman of the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP). Turkel has published policy-oriented commentaries in major publications and has testified before Congress regarding Uyghur camps and responses to China’s atrocities. Many of his recommendations have been incorporated into pending bills in Congress.
